North/Northeast Economic Development Initiative
Overview

The North/Northeast Economic Development Initiative is now complete. An amendment approved by City Council on July 27, 2011 expands the district to include properties along Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Alberta and Killingsworth St., Dekum, the south side of Lombard St. and the St. Johns Town Center. This amendment allows PDC to continue to make investments that help small businesses compete in today's economic climate, create jobs, and redevelop properties, particularly those owned by longstanding residents. As part of this expansion, the PDC Board approved an amendment to the Oregon Convention Center URA on June 8, 2011, removing the property north of Broadway/Schuyler so that it could be included in the Interstate Corridor URA boundary.

The N/NE study began in December 2008 with an analysis of past and planned investments, possible boundary adjustments and priorities for new investments in the Interstate Corridor and Oregon Convention Center Urban Renewal Areas. During this phase of the process, the PDC convened a 21-member Advisory Committee to make recommendations on these issues. The Committee met 12 times and made recommendations in May 2010 regarding policy issues and boundary adjustments, which have been approved.
